British Young Pilots (BYP) was established in 2023 with a mission to provide young people with the opportunity to experience flight and learn about aviation. Whilst for some, this will be a route into an exciting and fulfilling career, our core aim is really to boost self-esteem and confidence.
In 2024, BYP made significant strides in expanding its reach and impact. We have assembled an exceptionally experienced team of instructors and flying club leaders, primarily comprising retired commercial and military pilots eager to pass on their knowledge and passion. Our growth is supported by a burgeoning list of schools, both independent and state-funded, that are keen to partner with BYP in establishing a flying club.
In order to expand the accessibility of our offering, we created BYP Online which offers a subscription based membership with regular online webinars, interviews from vastly experienced pilots, and fun content perfect from any aviation enthusiast. By joining the BYP online forum community, you can watch regular training video’s and take part in live streaming flight SIM sessions. Just like our regular club members, you can even get your real flights in with a local BYP approved flying school.
In addition, our online training school will turn your home flight SIM from a game into a true training tool. You can enrol on online courses that will work through ground school content that will eventually enable you to take your private pilots licence ground school exams. These courses are perfect for young aviation enthusiasts as well as adults who want to use it alongside their practical flying lessons to build their confidence and knowledge.
BYP is enthusiastic about the prospect of establishing sustainable flying clubs for aspiring young aviators throughout the UK in the future. Our commitment to nurturing the next generation of pilots is unwavering and we are excited to continue our journey in aviation education.

The desire to fly sits deep in the human brain - for perhaps a million years, our ancestors have looked skywards and wondered what it might be like to fly. By some miraculous stroke of luck, you are one of the first generations for whom that dream is a possibility. However, access to aviation is limited - unless you have a lot of money, or perhaps a relative with an aircraft, having the chance to fly an plane if your own is still just a dream for most people. But not for you, BYP exists to give you the opportunity to fly. This journey starts with computer flight sims and classroom learning, but this is all leading to you sitting in the pilots seat of a real aircraft just a few weeks from now, and you will hear the words you will never forget, "You have control, it's your aircraft now" from your instructor.
I founded BYP to give this experience to as many young people at possible and I'm excited to be opening the door into the world of aviation, my world, over the coming weeks.

Confidence
The confidence that BYP has given my son is amazing. It has given him a new interest which fuels his love of science and engineering; space and aviation; as well as giving him a positive reason to be ‘online’ AND learn valuable skills in how to fly. Going flying IRL at one of BYP’s partner flying schools really was the icing on the cake. The knowledge he learnt prior to the real flight, really gave him confidence and a head start in learning how to fly.
